Wish List for Development

This sort of thing needs to be supported so that it is not too
painful to move and EXISTING hosts OS and files to raid.

The procedure for migrating from non-raid to raid 1 or 5, or
migrating from raid 1 to raid 5 should allow for the easy creation,
configuration and operation of a degraded raid set with one drive
"completely" missing from the configuration and setup procedure. When
this drive is later added, the raid set should (re)construct and
operate normally. The same procedure should work in reverse. It
should be possible to easily remove a drive from the set but leave it
on the system and use it for another purpose (or mount it as a
different degraded raid device for backup purposes in the case of
raid 1) without the raid system complaining. This is possible with
difficulty with the 0.42 raid tools, but it makes it practical to use
raid in degraded mode for both backup of HOT data sets and to up or
down grade a raid system without destroying or losing the data.

Just my 0.02 worth.
