Make sure you mdstart and mdstop it properly.
If you happen to be using a RedHat system, all you really need to do
is to edit the /etc/rc.d/init.d/* scripts and replace all occurrences
of "raid" with "md", and things should be peachy.
I'm a newbie myself, so don't take this as the ultimate truth.
