Hi yall, I'm a newbie to linux-raid group...

I'm considering attempting a Linux 2.2.x software RAID-1 configuration using
The Tekram DC-390U2B, Ultra2 Wide LVD Controller with 2 Ultra2 SCSI DVD Hard
Drives...

To get the benefit of RAID-1 (taken from Linux RAID-HOWTO):
...
Linux MD RAID-1 (mirroring) read performance:
MD implements read balancing. In a low-IO situation, this won't
change performance. But, with two disks in a high-IO environment,
this could as much as double the read performance. For N disks
in the mirror, this could improve performance N-fold.
...

Basically: to get improved Read performance because of mirrored-disks,
DO I NEED 2 SCSI CARDS? Or will the command queueing/SCSI subsystem still
give me a benefit?

Right now I'm assuming 2 separate cards is better....

Anybody have opinions on RAID levels and/or on quality of tekram cards -vs-
Adaptec, etc. ?

Thanks for any help/opinions/advice you can give!!

later,
