Since you're not the only one to ask, here you are; in the attached .tar.gz
file you'll find patches for raidtools v.90 19990421 and for the
corresponding kernel; the kernel patch should work for 2.0.36 as well as
2.2.6; apply after the 19990421 kernel patches.
micro-howto:
for raid levels 1/4/5 you can replace one of the "raid-disk" entries in
/etc/raidtab with "failed-disk". The device specified for failed-disk is
not touched when creating the raid device; in fact, it doesn't have to
exist at all - you could use /dev/foobar.
* create raid device in degraded mode using mkraid
* copy your existing files over to the new raid device (cp -a -R works for me)
* after you're using the new raid device, raidhotadd the original disk to
the array.
Things to remember:
* don't mark the smallest partition as failed-disk; otherwise you won't be
able to raidhotadd it at a later time.
* put the faild-disk entry after the raid-disk entries in raidtab -
otherwise you'll have trouble manually starting the device using raidstart.
* things to remember after you've finished moving to the new raid device:
Update your raidtab file (replace failed-disk with raid-disk) and change
partition type of original partition to fd.
Bye, Martin
