I'm working on the driver to support Consensys RAIDZONE under Linux.
See http://www.raidzone.com
The RAID 0/1/4/5 is provided in software in the usual way.
This product uses Ultra ATA (a.k.a. IDE) drives connected to the system
with an 5 or 8 drive enclosure that provides the hot-swappable support.
The enclosure includes several features that are required to do raid
properly. Such as
- the ability to power up and down drives individually
- the ability to monitor the power supply levels at the drive.
- the ability to sense the removal of the drive.
- per drive activity and state leds
- the ability to monitor the enclosure temperature
- cooling fans with current sensing to detect failure.
- hot add feature
Hot-Add is where you can add an additional drive at any time
as long as you have an empty slot in the enclosure.
Both Hot-Swap and, especially, Hot-Add require changes to the
IDE sub-system to initialize the new disk drive.
Steve.
