check syslog and run dmesg, that gives you some more info.

which patch? you will know if it worked cause there were no errors when
you ran 'patch'.

i notice in your raidtab your stuff is a little different from the
default. try putting all the args in the exact same order as they are in
the example, and put a blank line before the device definitions.
