My guess is the "latest" raidtools are already installed, the problem lies
with the kernel: they probably put the mainstream kernel without the
correct patches for raid: if this is the case, look for patches in
the usual places:
ftp://ftp.<your country>.kernel.org/pub/linux/daemons/raid/alpha
