First off, is there a FAQ or home page for this mailing list?
What is the behaviour when a drive fails in a RAID 1 configuration using
the built-in software RAID? If it is taken offline, is the other
drive's 'image' enough to sustain the array? (ie. will the system
continue to run with one of two drives operational in the "array") When
the failed drive has been replaced, is the recreation of the image
transparent?
Is hot swap supported (perhaps using the Promise EIDE hot swap brackets)
when using the software RAID implementation?
I am planning on creating a RAID 1 configuration on my home system using
two EIDE channels and two new, large EIDE drives. Can the S.M.A.R.T.
capabilties of some new drives work in conjuction with the disk failure
detection in the current Linux RAID implmentation?
Any other tips for optimizing performance are greatly appreciated.
Much thanks in advance,
Mike.
