It's been a lot of years so I don't remember correctly, but I do
remember some discussion about little endian vs. big endian machines and
the ext2fs in the early days of the m68k Linux.

It could be that this is an issue; maybe things have changed to make
ext2fs cross-platform? If not, then you may be hosed. Dunno.
