signal while hot-swapping drives.

Different length connectors, eg on SCA, is what i was referring to
when i said mechanical. Also the special carriers with the push
buttons are also mechanical i believe. AFAIK they provide a way to
quickly and uniformly disconnect the lines - possibly even first the
data lines and then power if it's sophisticated enough - to minimise
bus noise.
