I purchased a 5x4.5GB 10Krpm U2 array in a tower a while back.
Recently, I started rack-mounting all my equipment and bought a
rack-mount array enclosure into which to move the drives. My problem is
that the SCSI cable in the original tower in insufficient. The length
of the cable is such that it wont reach the bracket knockouts at the
back of the 25" deep case and won't span the distances between some of
the drive mounts.
I have asked retailers, cable manufacturers and array builders where to
obtain a longer cable but have had very little luck in obtaining
straight answers. Anyone have any opinions as to the best method?
Should I buy some 68-lead ribbon and connectors and make one myself, or
are there any lesser-known details to take into consideration (besides
min/max length/hop constraints)? Is there a viable "extension cord"
option perhaps?
I have presently turned the drives sideways, bolted them together using
mounting rails and set them at the back of the case where the cable can
reach everything, but I'd feel safer if I could mount them in the
shock-resistant drive cages at the front. Suggestions?
