Hello,

I am not a subscriber to this list, so please direct any answers to me
personally.

I have been running a Redhat 5.0 system and just upgraded to Redhat 6.0. My
problem is my linear mode RAID is non-functional.

Here is my old /etc/mdtab:

# mdtab

/dev/md0 linear,crc /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb1

Here is my new /etc/raidtab:

raiddev /dev/md0
        raid-level linear
        nr-raid-disks 2
        persistent-superblock 1
        device /dev/sda5
        raid-disk 0
        device /dev/sdb1
        raid-disk 1

I believe I have it in the right order, so I tried to activate the array.

# mkraid /dev/md0
handling MD device /dev/md0
analyzing super-block
disk 0: /dev/sda5, 1783183kB, raid superblock at 1783104kB
/dev/sda5 appears to contain an ext2 filesystem -- use -f to override
mkraid: aborted

I did the "-f" and the message directed me here. :-)

What did I do wrong?

Is it ok to do the what the message says when you use the -f?

I have data existing on /dev/sda5 and /dev/sdb1, is it going to go into the
bit-bucket when I activate the array?

Thanks.
