Exactly. You want "persistent-superblock 1" in your raidtab if you want to have
persistent superblocks, which you do unless you've got a good reason not to.
Without persistent superblocks you will have to start your raid each time with
mkraid, as you have discovered.

No. Best bet: backup the data on the array, and then recreate it with
"persistent-superblock 1" this time.

I agree that the persistent superblock section of the HOWTO is not totally clear
on this, but all the RAID-1 examples I have seen either use
"persistent-superblock 1" or don't have a persistent superblock line (which
therefore defaults to "persistent-superblock 1"). What made you decide to put a
"persistent-superblock 0" line in your raidtab?
