I am running Linux kernel 2.2.10 with the raid0145-19990724-2.2.10 patch applied
I wanted to create a "mirror ready" partition on a large hard drive, then when I have the time (read that as money) buy a second hard drive and mirror it.
I created an entry in raidtab and ran mkraid.
Mkraid reports success. But when I look at /proc/mdstat I see the following:
md0 : active raid1 hdc1[0] 25313708 block [1/1] [U] resync=0% finish=3020710.0min
The resync=0% never rises.
So I went ahead and did a mke2fs /dev/md0. It write superblocks and inodes, but never returns.
Lastly I rebooted. The partition is rediscovered but once again it is in resync=0% mode and never moves.
