Sorry guys, I replied to this earlier, but forgot the list....
I had this problem, and spent a day tracking it down - it also
sounds like the problem someone else has with doing a mkraid
I tracked it down to an incompatibility with the version of the raidtools shipped with
mandrake and the stock kernel.
using raidtools???? .42 works fine, but the ones shipped ( ver ???? .90)
don't work...
My guess is that the ALPHA patches need to be applied (I RTFM'd in the end)
to use tools .50 ?? or greater
