dunno if that's gonna help you a bit or not, but I happen to
have exactly (4) 4.3gb SCSI drives on an aic78xxx ( the Ultra Wide
version) too, on an SMP box (2.2.12). however, I boot on an IDE
drive, and uses no RAID.
This one config is working fine.
I'd say, it's the raid thingy, then ...
