Unless the logical partitions are also identical and in the
same order. I've done this on my system - two identical
drives, all partitions are RAID1s and laid out exactly
the same, and it works fine. You're right, though, if you
want to use different extended/logical partitions (or even
primary) partitions, you can't just dd the partition table.
You could, however, probably write some gnarly little script
to parse 'fdisk -l', merge the partition tables and write
them out to the second disk (yuck... can't believe I'm suggesting
that - just shoot me now...).
