1) raidhotadd, raidhotremove
2) The hot-plug/hot-unplug capabilities of your
   - drive
   - controller
   - device driver for controller
   - kernel

   Would seem to be questionable too.  I have not to zero IDE knowledge,
   but I'd venture a guess that it's not designed for this kind of
   action.  Surviving the pull gives some confidence in controller and
   driver, but best-case you'll most likely have to use some /proc
   interface to get it to re-scan that channel and notice the drive is
   back (could be wrong, would love to find out :)  Once the controller
   driver and kernel see the disk back, raidhot{remove,add} should work.

Definitely.  I have no idea of the connection, but it's worrisome for sure.
