"bad md_map in ll_rw_block" when mounting raid 5 md

The md device is resyncing with about 200 mins to go
and when I try mounting it, I get "bad md_map in
ll_rw_block". It is a raid 5 md with 0.90 and kernel
2.2.13. Is it not possible to mount a md that is being resynced?
