Had the same problems first with suse6.3 and Kernel 2.2.13. Finally I
downloaded 2.2.14 and (this seems to be the clue) a patch for 2.2.14 to
make the raid tools work. After applying the patch from
http://people.redhat.com/mingo/raid-patches/raid-2.2.14-B1 and
recompiling the kernel everything worked fine. I did not have to
recompile the raidtools themselves.
