I'm almost certain this a FAQ (or soon will be) but I can't find the
answer. SuSE V6.4 seems to have a problem with RAID1; mkraid fails
with "invalid raid superblock magic (3ff9fe) on block 2096320". The
value of the magic and block number vary with the partition size, of
course, but all attempts to run RAID1 terminate this way. I can get
the same raidtab file to run under RedHat 6.2 but RedHat won't build
netatalk + asun (there's a yp symbol in a RedHat library which won't
resolve) while SuSE 6.4 has no problem and I need netatalk support.
RAID0 works well under SuSE 6.4. I haven't tried RAID5.
