If ANY swap partition is in use and it fails, the kernel will lock
up. Putting the swap on raid eliminates this problem, but at a price
of waiting for resync in the event of a failure and replacement of
the offending disk. This is an old topic and the work-arounds are
well documented. Until the issue of buffering is handled in some
other manner it is the best solution for the swap. A better way to
handle it if you are really worried about resources is to start with
adequate ram in your *nix box to start with so swap is an infrequent
event.
