Hello,

I've been searching this list for the answer but I got confused by all the
different approaches. Besides, I don't have /boot on an md partition
as most of you seem to have...

I have a raid-1 setup with the 0.90 raid, for all partitions exept for
/boot. There are several problems, one is that I can only boot from
floppy, although I specified root=900 in lilo.conf. Shouldn't that work ?
I get a "kernel panic: unable to mount root partition".
( the rootpartion is on /dev/md0 which consists of hda2 + hdc2 )

Stupidly enough, both the (working) floppy and the kernel on disk respond
to 'rdev' with "Root device /dev/hda2", but only the floppy works...

The second one is this: if drive hda fails, the machine won't boot from
hdc, or will it ? How did you people fix this...?

Finally, I have a question about duplicating this setup. I need to
duplicate this machine to two others. I plan to do it like this:
remove one of the disks, let it boot in degraded mode, shutdown, add a new
drive, raidhotadd the new drive to the array (in place of the original),
let it sync, and then remove the new drive again.

Then I should be able to do that again in the second machine; boot the
freshly mirrored one in there, and raidhotadd an empty one later.
Any problems with this ? Will it work, or is my whole approach wrong ?

Thank you for your time,

Maarten
