Hi Guys,

I am having problems with using a scanner, After a few scans, (not the same 
number each time), then scanner fails to be recognised. If I wait for some 
time the scanner appears to be ok, ie I can use it to make one scan, but it 
will lock the machine solid after a short time after the second scan. No 
errors recorded in any logs that I can find. 

I have the scanner (UMAX 2400S) attached to a separate SCSI card and advansys 
3940uw. All the system disks are on another SCSI card (same make/number). I 
have not had any problems with this card when access HDD's CD's CDRW's.

The Scanner is attached to the card by a 50pin Centronics (on the scanner) to 
50pin High-Density (on the card) cable. It is then converted to 68pin as 
required by the card by an active converter (as suggested by some docs that I 
read for an adaptect scsi card) so that it properly terminates the high bytes 
on the scsi socket. The other scsi port on the Scanner is terminated with an 
active 25pin d-type connector (The LED does light).

All the cables are new, I have even replaced the active terminator, cables 
etc.

I have had the same lockups when the scanner was connected to the same card 
as the drives and was conneted to the card via a 50pin centronics to 68pin 
high density cable (No converters). The SCSI cable is only 1 meter in length.

I have even booted the system with a single processor kernel just to be sure.

The system is a standard install of mandrake 7.2.

Kernel is  2.2.17-21mdksmp, it that means anything to non-mandrake users.
The machine is a dual processor 400MHz job, Asus motherboard P2BD with 256MB 
mem.

The output of the advansys /proc/scsi/advansys/1 (the card where the scanner 
is attached) is attached to this msg (Both single processor and dual 
processor) as well as two versions of dmsg.

SCSI Id of the scanner is 1.

The only thing that might be odd is that the scanner's scsi card and the 
display card are using the same IRQ, but I thought that IRQ sharing was ok in 
the new kernels. The display card is an AGP type and the scsi card is pci.

As you might have guessed, I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any help 
appriciated, even suggestions as to how I can track down what I haven't done 
(yet!)
