Cdrecord locks when trying to scan the scsi bus. A "strace cdrecord -scanbus" shows, that after trying to open /dev/sg0 cdrecord locks. The problem occurred after installing backup software made by Yosemite (www.tapeware.com). This software tries to detect the scsi tape devices, but can not find all tape devices installed. Strange, that all devices are recognized by the kernel, and I can access them. Only the cd-writer is blocked for writing, but I can still read CDs. But once tapeware is installed, I can not access the CD-Writer anymore. Only a complete removal of the tapeware software AND rebooting the system can resolve the problem. Thus I think (as well as the support people at tapeware) the problem belongs to the scsi driver. The PC (dual processor) is running SuSE Linux 7.0, with kernel 2.2.18 (no other patches applied) equipped with two scsi tapes, one cdrom writer, one cdrom and two hard disks. The pc is equipped with a dual Adaptec 2940 UW controller. The problem occurred too with a supplied 2.2.16 kernel. Any ideas?
