Hi Mike & Richard,
If your drive doesn't support automatic read/write allocation,
my SCSI Command Utility (Scu) has a "reassign" command which can help you.

        It's located at URL:

            http://www.bit-net.com/~rmiller/scu.html

Scu also as a "verify media" command to help verify the
integrity of your media. Scu's "show page error" will report if
your drive supports ARRE and/or AWRE (most newer drives do).

If you want something better than 'dd' for testing with, you
may also want to try my Data Test Program 'dt', at URL:

            http://www.bit-net.com/~rmiller/dt.html

For those of you who have tried 'dt' in the past, please be
aware a new version of available with enhanced options for disk tests.

Enjoy,
Robin
