hi
I am on a C3600 workstation, I have recently attached a CDRW Yamaha
SCSI unit to an external box, and I see the following in the dmesg
[ 913.053560] data overrun detected in Data-in phase. Tag == 0x7.
[ 913.053562] (scsi8:A:5:0):
[ 913.053565] Have seen Data Phase. Length = 32. NumSGs = 1.
[ 913.053568] sg[0] - Addr 0x02d4ca000 : Length 32
[ 913.071928] (scsi8:A:5:0):
[ 913.071932] data overrun detected in Data-in phase. Tag == 0x3.
[ 913.071935] (scsi8:A:5:0):

[ 913.071940] sg[0] - Addr 0x02d4ca000 : Length 32

[ 913.092629] (scsi8:A:5:0):

[ 913.112842] data overrun detected in Data-in phase. Tag == 0x3.
[ 913.112844] (scsi8:A:5:0):

[ 913.112850] sg[0] - Addr 0x02d4ca000 : Length 32
I am using Adaptec SCSI PCI card with aic7xxx driver
digging into the driver for the error message, I see the following
driver/scsi/aic7xxx/aic7xxx_core.c
* When the sequencer detects an overrun, it
* places the controller in "BITBUCKET" mode
* and allows the target to complete its transfer.
* Unfortunately, none of the counters get updated
* when the controller is in this mode, so we have
* no way of knowing how large the overrun was.
I have already added this line to drivers/scsi/scsi_devinfo.c
{"YAMAHA", "CRW8824S", "1.00", BLIST_NOLUN}, /* locks up */
but it doesn't help
I can mount a CDROM and it seems it's working, but the kernel,
complains warnings
I have already checked the cable, it's fine, the unit is not
auto-terminated, the termination is provided by the external box
the parity jumper is ON, and the block size jumper is ON (it means
512byte block_size)
the unit is: YAMAHA CRW8824S
let me know
Carlo
p.s.
it happens on a HPPA C3600 workstation, and on an Apple PowerMac MDD G4
