I was playing mp3s from a CD I burned myself, and all of a sudden, I started
getting:

...

...

This continued over and over.

So I tried something different:

[root@xenon /local/cdrom]# dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/dev/null
1289536+0 records in
1289536+0 records out

and then I got

...
Jan 24 23:46:06 xenon kernel: scsi1: MEDIUM ERROR on channel 0, id 5, lun 0, CDB: Read

Jan 24 23:46:14 xenon kernel: CD-ROM I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 1289540
...

Seeing MEDIUM ERROR, does this suggest the CD is messed up? I know I
could try another CD, but I'd like to know if some of the SCSI-gurus out
there could decipher the SCSI protocol here and tell me if it just looked
like bogus disc or if there was something maybe wrong with my drive.

Thanks all,

Brendan
