As an update to everyone, I was able to get the AIC-7890 to run with a
different set of 5.2 discs. The disc that didn't work was a Redhat 5.2
included in "Redhat Linux Unleashed" ( a book). The discs that did work
were another set of 5.2 discs I got from cheapbytes.com
Strangely enough, the installation detected the card as AIC-7840 (there
where two other numbers, perhaps AIC-7740 adn something else). However,
seeing some aic7xxx driver used I'm not worried about the discrepency.
(now I just have to get PPP going and I'll be a functional Linux user)
