No, there is no such (wrong) dependency left in
/lib/modules/2.2.9/modules.dep:
(...)
/lib/modules/2.2.9/scsi/ncr53c8xx.o:
/lib/modules/2.2.9/scsi/53c7,8xx.o:
/lib/modules/2.2.9/scsi/imm.o: /lib/modules/2.2.9/misc/parport.o
/lib/modules/2.2.9/scsi/ppa.o: /lib/modules/2.2.9/misc/parport.o
/lib/modules/2.2.9/scsi/sg.o:
/lib/modules/2.2.9/scsi/sr_mod.o:
(...)
I tried
insmod version 2.1.121 and 2.2.2-pre6, but with no success / no difference.
I suspect the clearing up process of sd_mod ( or ppa or parport - don't
know) to be buggy:
Immediately after having rebooted:
mount /dev/sda4
parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [SPP,ECP,ECPEPP,ECPPS2]
ppa: Version 2.05 (for Linux 2.2.x)
ppa: Found device at ID 6, Attempting to use EPP
ppa: Communication established with ID 6 using EPP
scsi1 : Iomega VPI0 (ppa) interface
scsi : 2 hosts.
Vendor: IOMEGA Model: ZIP 100 Rev: J.03
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi removable disk sda at scsi1, channel 0, id 6, lun 0
SCSI device sda: hdwr sector= 512 bytes. Sectors= 196608 [96 MB] [0.1 GB
]
sda: Write Protect is off
sda: sda4
ls -al /zip4 and so on
umount /zip4
ftmt -f /dev/qft0 status (provokes reasonable output)
mount /dev/sda4
mount: /dev/sda4 is not a valid block device
Instead of ftmt ... simply removing ppa, parport and so on and retrying
mount /dev/sda4 would have provoked the same error message.
sd_mod being statically present inside the kernel doesn't want
to request ppa any more; instead it spits out "...not a valid block device"
although it was able to do the request properly at least one time.
So I cannot help getting the impression there's something wrong with
those steps regarding the clearing up of all of the related modules /
ressources.
BTW:
removing all ftape related modules doesn't help
ejecting and reinserting zip disk doesn't help either
removing parallel port cable, power off and power on doesn't either
Do you have any further suggestions?
Thank you.
Juergen.
