G'day All,
I'm using kernel 2.2.9 and have a new (old?) AVA1505 card. I read
somewhere that I'm supposed to use the aha152x module but specify
parameters. Anyhow I've done that, the parameters are:
options aha152x aha152x=0x340,11,7,0

It's a kernel module too.

Linux finds the tape drive fine:
scsi : 0 hosts.
scsi : detected total.
[..other non-scsi stuff..]
aha152x: BIOS test: passed, detected 1 controller(s)
aha152x0: vital data: PORTBASE=0x340, IRQ=11, SCSI ID=7, reconnect=disabled, par
ity=enabled, synchronous=disabled, delay=100, extended translation=disabled
aha152x: trying software interrupt, ok.
scsi0 : Adaptec 152x SCSI driver; $Revision: 1.7 $
scsi : 1 host.
Vendor: SONY Model: SDT-5000 Rev: 3.30
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi tape st0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 5, lun 0

Wonderful, I fire up taper and tell it to build an info file. It finds
the first file and then Linux locks up hard, well almost....

I have a litle CPU meter on my X display, its moving..just. The meter
is telling me that there is almost no user cpu time, but 100% system CPU
time. The keyboard and mouse respond very slowly (at least 20 seconds
after typing or moving).

I hit the eject button on the tape drive and everything goes back to
normal.

The kernel complains about this:
Jun 6 23:29:16 gonzo kernel: st0: Error with sense data: extra data not valid Current
error st09:00: sense key Not Ready
Jun 6 23:29:16 gonzo kernel: Additional sense indicates Logical unit is in process of
becoming ready
Jun 6 23:29:25 gonzo kernel: st0: Error with sense data: extra data not valid Current
error st09:00: sense key Unit Attention
Jun 6 23:29:25 gonzo kernel: Additional sense indicates Not ready to ready tran
sition (medium may have changed)
Jun 6 23:29:53 gonzo kernel: st0: Error with sense data: extra data not valid Current
error st09:00: sense key Aborted Command
Jun 6 23:29:58 gonzo kernel: st0: Error with sense data: extra data not valid Current
error st09:00: sense key Not Ready
Jun 6 23:29:58 gonzo kernel: Additional sense indicates Logical unit not ready, cause
not reportable

I think it is trying to tell me some idiot just ejected the tape. Other
than that, Linux is happy again.

So something about my parameters or the driver or this crappy host
adapter is upsetting things. But what exactly? Any help gratefully
taken.

 - Craig
