Morning Chaps (and lasses)

I'm having a little problem with a HP tape drive and was looking for a
little assistance.

One of my clients has a P200 server with an aha1542cf card talking to a HP
T20i. The problem is the tape drive is unusable unless I power off the
system as a reboot wont work.

Power on the system, use afio or tar and I can dump all the 6GB of data to
the tape no problems I can even read it all back again to confirm it's all
there but take out the tape and put in another OR the same one I get "I/O
Error". All atempts to use the device I get the same error.

I have rebuilt the kernel with and without modules. Power cycle the machine
no "st" module issue a "mt rewind" and it works. "lsmod" says the "st"
module is loaded. Take the tape out and put it back in again and do the
same command module "st" loaded but "I/O Error".

I have tried the same thing with my own T4i unit connected to a 2940uw and
the unit works as expected.

The kernel used is 2.0.34. Although I would like to upgrade this machine to
2.2.x but this machine is critical and it has never crashed so I can't
justify it.

What do you think? is the T20i unit faulty or do I need to change the
settings in my 1542 card.

Many thanks

Bob Weeks
