I hope to be on topic and giving enough information to help determine if there is a
problem in the SCSI driver or kernel code or just a hardware problem on my box.
In any case I would appreciate any hint that could help me track down my problem.

Symptom:
System hanging, no reaction on any key (except power and reset)
- occurs when accessing files (from windows box via Samba)
- does not occur running ckraid, mke2fs, e2fsck
Configuration:
- aha1542 and tmscsim compiled into kernel.
- Software RAID-5 array of 6 1GB Disks, disks 1-3 on the first DC390
and disks 4-6 on the second DC390 controller.
- (previous config with two disks on AHA1542 and four on
a single DC390 worked well)
- the RAID-5 array is now running with all disks on a single DC390.
runs stable, but slower than the old AHA1542/DC390 setup
Action taken so far to resolve the problem:
- exchanged the tmscsim of SuSE6.1 (2.0d) with Version 2.0d20 sources from
http://www.garloff.de/kurt/linux/dc390/dc390-20d20.tar.gz and recompiled
the kernel (SCSI support and both aha1542 and tmscsim compiled in)
- disabled disconnect for all SCSI hard Disks ( this delayed the crash
a tiny little bit )
Hardware Configuration:
- ASUS PVI486SP3 PCI/VLB/ISA motherboard
- Intel PODP5V83 Pentium Overdrive 83MHz
- 24MB of FPM RAM
- Award BIOS 4.50G with default settings
- ADAPTEC 1542B ISA SCSI controller with 5 CD-drives attached
- two Tekram DC390(T) Rev. 2.02 PCI SCSI controllers with one Seagate and
two Compaq drives on each
- VLB VGA card stealth64
- ISA ISDN card Teles PnP
- ISA ethernet controller NE2000 (genuine Novell)
- 3 IDE hard disks
