Alan, Gerard, etc., When trying to test the 2.2.11pre7 release on my DEC Multia, I ran into the following behavior which leads me to request that 2.2.11 not go out in the current state. I suspect the problem stems from the new code in the ncr53c8xx that is intended to allow the system to dynamically reconfigure the host adapter's SCSI ID, but kernel hacking is hardly my area of expertise. Where I normally get the following messages---please note the ID of 7 for the host adapter---when booting 2.2.10 (which contains the 3.2 driver): ncr53c8xx: at PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0 ncr53c8xx: 53c810 detected ncr53c810-0: rev=0x02, base=0x4200000, io_port=0x8000, irq=11 ncr53c810-0: ID 7, Fast-10, Parity Checking ncr53c810-0: restart (scsi reset). scsi0 : ncr53c8xx - version 3.2 scsi : 1 host. The pertinent part of my config is: CONFIG_SCSI_NCR53C8XX=y # CONFIG_SCSI_SYM53C8XX is not set CONFIG_SCSI_NCR53C8XX_DEFAULT_TAGS=8 CONFIG_SCSI_NCR53C8XX_MAX_TAGS=32 CONFIG_SCSI_NCR53C8XX_SYNC=40 # CONFIG_SCSI_NCR53C8XX_PROFILE is not set # CONFIG_SCSI_NCR53C8XX_IOMAPPED is not set # CONFIG_SCSI_NCR53C8XX_SYMBIOS_COMPAT is not set BTW, I also trie to use the ncr53c8xx=hostid:7 kernel parameter to force it to the right ID with no success. I've tried to find newer drivers, but the ftp.tux.org site seems to be terrifically broken. I hope this can be resolved before 2.2.11-final hits the streets.
