Wow. What a solution.

Although the solution seems to be a good one in Linux-only
shop (and linux being the latest 2.2.x kernel),
I have a suggestion to general readers.

Next time the readers of this mailing list have similar problems with
cards from reputable vendors on linux, they might want to think about
giving it a local shool or something. Usually, these boards have
workig drivers with Win95/98, etc.. (1542cf certainly works with
win95. I checked it at home.)

For AHA-1542Cf specifically, one of our web servers running on Solaris
2.x uses 1542cf for a tape and CDROM connection STILL. So
there are still uses for various cards that may not work on linux.
Physically damaging one is a way to avoid someone having trouble with
it on linux, but the boards might find some use at school laboratory,
etc..

>From a happy user of TEKRAM card at home. (Thank you, Kurt!).
(I have 1542CF as a hot-standby just in case at home.
This worked with earlier linux/os2 for quite sometime. Too bad,
the later kernel might not support 1542cf very well.)
