Hi, you're receiving this EMAIL either because you're on the Linux SCSI list,
or because you've sent me EMAIL about mtx/mtxl in the past. If the latter, I'd
like to invite you to join the 'mtx' mailing list at the new 'mtx' home page
on SourceForge, because otherwise you will not receive any more announcements
of this nature:

http://sourceforge.net/project/?group_id=4626

Note that the "-announce" list is not yet up (try again tomorrow), but the
"-general" list is.

Anyhow: I just finished changing 'mtx' to dynamically allocate its arrays
depending upon the results of the MODE_SENSE Element Address Assignment Page.
What that basically means is that, no matter how many elements in your media
changer, no matter how small or how big, 'mtx' should be able to adjust to it
(up to the limits of the underlying SCSI subsystem, but even media changers
with a dozen drives and hundreds of elements should now be usable). No more
going into 'mtx.h' and changing cryptic constants to deal with unusual numbers
of elements. Hopefully. (Note that changers that use the _ATTACHED API still
use the constants, since they have no Element Address Assignment Page).

Anyhow, the code:

ftp://ftp.estinc.com/pub/unsupported/mtx-1.2.4.tar.gz

I have tested this code with two media changers: the Exabyte 220 (the EZ-17 is
almost identical SCSI-wise and should work identically), and the HP DAT 40x6.
Each of which returned a different data format from the MODE_SENSE (the actual
page itself was the same, but mode page headers etc. were not). I'm not
feeling too confident about this code, and would appreciate it if any or all
of you would try it out to make sure that it works with your own media
changer, even if you're happy with the version of 'mtx' that you're running
now.

See the CHANGES file for some info on what I need insofar as debugging goes if
it does *NOT* work. And thanks for any help you can give me here. (And thanks
especially to Doug Bonnell, ?formerly? of BreeceHill, for the info underlying
this and the EEPOS stuff).
