Ported in december 1995. But since this date I have mostly been the only
guy that actually worked on SYM53C8XX drivers for Free O/Ses and
developped real new features. By the way, FreeBSD people are quite happy
with the `sym' driver that made vanished all problems encountered with the
`ncr' and added numerous features for SYM53C8XX support.

Unfortunately nothing very precise. :(
But if placing the device at a different place on the cable get rid of the
problem then reason is to be looked for in the hardware, in my opinion.
