Almost every DLT autoloader can be properly driven by MTX (
http://mtx.sourceforge.net ). 'mtx' can be used with either GNU 'tar' or
with BRU ( http://www.estinc.com ) in "real" tape library mode to do
backups across multiple tapes (there's an example of how to do it with
'tar' in the .doc file that comes with it, to do it with BRU you put
possibly 'mt offline' in your unmount script and 'mtx next' in your
mount script and tell your BRUTAB that you have said scripts). I have
not tested the 'tar' procedure (it was provided by Leonard Zubkhoff long
before I took over maintenance of 'mtx'), but can attest that the 'bru'
procedure works just fine across multiple tapes.

Exabyte actually will be shipping an older version of 'mtx' for Linux
with all of their low end tape libraries shortly, as their Linux drivers
for said hardware. Or maybe not, I don't know what their final decision
is, but they have been very good about supporting me with hardware to
develop and test 'mtx' with.

Don't know about 'Dandelion' SCSI library, but so far I've had no
trouble with the latest HP SureStore DAT autoloader and 'mtx'. Some of
the HP optical media changers get a little hairy though (we finally got
it working, but it was a pain in the #%@#%). Do avoid the ADIC DAT
Autochanger, we (the members of the 'mtx' list at SourceForge) have not
been able to get it to work with 'mtx', it does not appear to respond
correctly to the SCSI-3 standard READ_ELEMENT_STATUS command (get the
status of the first requested element fine, but the rest ain't there,
BOOM!). You might want to ask on the 'mtx' mailing list to see what
other hardware people have working fine with 'mtx', I'm certainly not
aware of all of it!
