Actually, that's almost it.  Just a Bunch of Disks.  Or Just a Box of Disks.
I've heard it both ways, and think both are pretty much correct.  It means
disks that aren't managed in a group in anyway, just wired and ready to plug
into a SCSI controller, each taking an ID on the chain.

They're good solutions for many folks who just need a fair bit of storage
(100 gigs+) but not terabytes upon terabytes.
