Since I am not familiar with the NT/W2K SCSI driver architecture
I went looking and found this url:

At first glance it looks a bit like STREAMS/TLI. How do the
optional filter drivers get configured?
Their "class storage drivers" seem to be equivalent to Linux's
SCSI disk, tape and cdrom drivers (i.e. sd, st and sr respectively).
The closest thing that I can think of to W2K's (lower) filter
driver is the ide-scsi pseudo driver.
Other than drawing broad architectural comparisons like the above,
the short answer to your question is: it depends.
