This laptop does not have a modem, but an internal DSP (winmodem).
These are not serial devices, and are not modems, for the most part
they are USELESS with any OS other than Win9x. However, if like my
Toshiba , the modem is based on the Lucent chipset the program at
http://www.close.u-net.com/ltmodem.html may allow you to shove data
through the thing and actually communicate. Try using the "pty
/usr/local/bin/ltmodem -c" option to have pppd use the standard in/out
of the ltmodem command in "command" mode to receive and send data.
Note that the ltmodem command doesn't use Hayes AT commands but it's
own command set.
