When you were configuring the kernel what was the module choices you
made for the network devices?

Its been supported since XFree86-3.3.4 was released well over a year
ago. No detailed explanation is needed, just follow the instructions
that RedHat provides.

By default, e2fsck runs every 20th time you mount a file system, even if
it doesn't detect an error, just to make sure everything is okay. The
message you're seeing means that you've mounted the file system 20 times
or more since the last check.
To change the default, use tune2fs.

Try using the command "setup" choose "system services" and place an
asterisk next to "Network".
The services with an asterisk next to them will be started at boot time.

The only time you don't need to run "make modules & make
modules_install" is when you have compiled everything into the kernel.
(No loadable modules)

Windows really seems to want to boot from hda (primary
master) else it's unhappy. Somehow booting as hde on
a Promise Ultra66 it's able to work. On my system, I
have the option (thru BIOS setup) of booting from my
Ultra66 (seen as a SCSI controller) or my primary IDE.
So with Windows on a non-bootable device (hdg in your
case), I think you need to use map-drive to get it to
work.
Follow this link (a bit slow, but it will load) to see
a helpful example of map-drive in action. It helped me
out in a case of booting Win98 from hdc, and may work for
you as well.
http://tycho.edico.si/linuxtnt/index.php3
Note that my Ultra66 seems to put hde at 0x2100, although
I don't know if that's what I'd use for the map-drive or
not.
Good luck!

I'm attempting to setup a network of Windows PC's
with a Cobalt Qube 2 acting as the firewall. I'd
like to configure the firewall to be accessible
to certain users only (possibly certain windows
users?). Is this possible with the firewall that
comes with the Qube 2? If so, how would I go
about it?
Thanks,

I included the tulip driver and compiled it as a module. I renamed my
old /lib/modules tree and let "make modules_install" create a new one.
I verified that the tulip.o module was created under ./net too.
That's the module that I'm able to load afterwards with insmod, and then
everything works fine. I just can't figure out why it doesn't
automatically load the module when it tries to start eth0?
As a side note, I tried building the module statically into the kernel.
Then it works fine on boot. Just can't figure out why it doesn't work
as a module?

Did you build loadable module support in the kernel when you configured
it?
Did you add the "CONFIG_NET_EISA and CONFIG_DEC_ELCP" modules while
configuring the kernel?
Did you use the new "tulip.c" module?
What brand & model NIC is it?

Hello,
I have a problem with RedHat 6.2, on a P200. I've just added a SCSI card
(Adaptec 2940) wich is recognized immediatly by kudzu.
Plugged on this card, I have a CD Writer Philips CD2660 and a Fujitsu
Magneto optic 128 Mo. At boot, all of them are recognized by the computer,
but when Linux starts, a 'cat /proc/scsi/scsi' replies that no devices are
connected.
What can I do to have thes peripherals detected ?
Thanks for your answers, and excuse me for my poor english

not once its running.
someone has to set it running to start with.
you can get it started automatically though.
eg run this at boot ...
doprog /dev/tty8 /usr/X11R6/bin/vncserver -depth 16 :1 &> /dev/null
^^^
screen number
then you don't telnet in at all.
just point your vnc client at the server.
eg
vncviewer hostname:1

Why not just use one of the following instead (they're synonyms)?
. $config_file
source $config_file
It ought to still work, mind you, if the syntax is all correct; I agree
with checking that the last line has a single quote at the end and not a
double quote.

bash -x /usr/bin/smbprint (or wherever it is) would be a good place to
start.

Subject: TurboLinux Installation Problems!! Guru's I need help
Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000 00:15:06 -0700
I've decided to enter the Linux world by purchasing TurboLinux
Workstation but so far I have not been able to get it to properly install.
I'm trying to get it to fit onto my old p100 w/1.2 gigs of space. Later on
I'll try to do the fips thing for my p3.
I'm installing it on a empty HD with no windows running on it but I
always get errors after installing it. TurboLinux support is very very weak
so any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are my general questions.
First of all, I'm unsure of what I should be doing when setting up the
partitions. What I've done everytime I've attempted to install TBLinux is
created a Linux Swap and a Regular Linux partition. I made the swap +32M
and used the rest for the regular Linux Partition, so about 1100 Megs left
for Linux.
I have few errors now during the installation, but in general there are
many flaws in the installation program, like the images for the hardware
disk 2 don't work so I can't add the files for IDE devices. I wonder if
this is a part of the problem. For any of you guru's out there here's the
error I get when loading up Linux... FYI LILO boots up fine.

So after this I can only do maintenance on my comp and not get X-Window to
run... and I've tried installing TBLinux 10 times or so already. Any
suggestions? I'm hoping my faith in the Linux online community can pull
through for me this time. Should I be making more then two partitions? I
kinda have a feeling I should be making partitions for /usr/var?? /etc?
I'm confused because the auto partition makes 9 partitions. Help!!! And
the reason I'm not using the auto partitioning is because it doesn't leave
me with enough space to install the packages which provide X-Window. Thanks
in advance.

Yes :

Yes:

Yeah, forgot the actual specs there, it is in fact only 8Mb,
Or is it 16? I have not seen the thing since 1998.
