you may need to `setserial` on that port.

It's something like `setserial /dev/ttyS02 IRQ=3` you can do a manpage
on it. Use the correct dev number. Also, this will reset if you reboot.
It is a good idea to include the command in the rc.local file.

Lilo's is a good thing to have even if you only have linux
installed on your machine. I find it useful because it allows me
to have multiple bootable kernel images. This is very handy when
you've compiled a new kernel and find it doesn't boot. Rather
than searching around for that "rescue" floppy I forgot to make,
I simply reboot and select the old kernel to boot, then fix the
problem with the new one.

Laurent

I'm quite certain that your problems would probably be solved it you
reconfigure your system to NOT have a graphical login screen.

You can run yast, system administration, user logins, and change it to
where you have a text or console login. This would be preferable
ANYWAY, because graphical logins, while they look more impressive, just
lead go grief!

Bon Chance!

I've just set up xfree86 4.0 and the new Nvidia kernel and glx
drivers(0.9-4) for GeForce2.
X server starts but KDE fails with the following error message:

X Error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation) Major opcode of
failed request 45 (X_Open Font)

I had no KDE problems with the previous Xfree installation. (Original
RedHat 6.1)
My kernel version is 2.2.12-20. Graph. card is Elsa Gladiac.

Thanks in advance for any help

Arvid,

Check out this site: http://www.xfree86.org/FAQ/

Look at all of the Trident entries, not just this one:

http://www.xfree86.org/FAQ/#whiteglow

Q.G6- My Trident laptop goes glowing-white when I start the server.

Disable the "panel stretch" or "enlarge panel" or "panel extend" feature
in the Laptop BIOS. Do not use the vesafb Linux
kernel module. With these two changes the server should work ok (you
might need Option "cyber_shadow", too).

Good Luck,

Hello,

It's very easy, simply cd to your CD-Rom and type;
   ezstart.bat <return>

The install programme will ask you to confirm that you are not using a
shell, it will then then request your CD-Rom drive letter.
That's all you need to do, the installer will guide you through things.

Good luck.

I have a quick question. I recompiled to the 2.2.16 kernel. Everything is
cool but, when my system boots, my NICs delay, then dont initialize.

I found out that my modules arent loading since the compile. For the NICs
anyways. I did set the 2 modules I need in the kernel and can insmod them
both, restart the network and all is cool. I have a script off of rc.local
that does this so I have connectivity, but could you tell me how to get them
to load at boot again?

I am guessing recompile and set them to be in the kernel instead of modules,
but shouldnt I be able to leave them as modules, then allow the system to
load them when it initially brings up the modules at boot?

I would rather do the latter, but if I have to I can either leave my script,
or compile them right into the kernel.

I dont have kmod compiled, should I do this? The help said it replaces
kerneld so I left it out as I dont know much about it.

Thanks boys,

Trent

No joy. Compiling the tulip.c driver from Linksys (actually, from
Scyld.com), even with pci-scan.c, pci-scan.h, and kernel_compat.h,
results in various compilation errors.

With all the files in place (i.e., tulip.c, pci-scan.c, pci-scan.h, and
kernel_compat.h in /usr/src/'uname -r'/drivers/net), I get:

drivers/net/net.a(tulip.o): In function `tulip_probe1':
tulip.o(.text+0x47): undefined reference to
`pci_write_config_dword_Rf0fbd200'

tulip.o(.text+0xf8): undefined reference to

[... etc]

when trying to make bzImage.

ARGH! Anyone with suggestions?

Maybe try this one. In /etc/conf.modules add a line that says

alias eth0 nicdriver-name
alias eth1 nicdriver-name
If you need "options" they can go in here too.

I've been puzzling for a week now.

michael# ps2ps -dLanguageLevel=1 input.ps output.ps

creates a massive output.ps file eg ..

michael# ls -l Firewall-HOWTO.ps
-rw-rw-r-- 1 michael michael 130300 Jul 4 12:51 Firewall-HOWTO.ps

michael# ps2ps -dLanguageLevel=1 Firewall=HOWTO.ps output.ps

michael# ls -l output.ps
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 4873776 Jul 16 00:07 output.ps

michael# lpr output.ps
(many minutes later and the printer resets)

Outputting postscript to this Oki OL840 (ps level 1) all worked fine
with RH6.0 ie with...

        printtool-3.40-3.noarch.rpm
        rhs-printfilters-1.51-2.i386.rpm
        ghostscript-5.10-7.i386.rpm
        ghostscript-fonts-5.10-3.noarch.rpm
        lpr-0.35-1.i386.rpm

Replacing the packages in RH6.2 with the above (previously functioning
packages) still brings no joy - same fault - printer resets without
printing.

I've also tried replacing GNU ghostscript with Aladdin ghostscript 6.01.
No difference.

Any help gratefully received!

I have once successfully installed Slackware on a PS/2 model 55/SX
(386SX/16 MHz, 30 MB ESDI hard disk, 4 MB RAM). However, I did not
use a bootdisk from the Slackware CD but one of Chris Beauregard's I
got from the MCA-Linux page.

Like you suspect, the ordinary MCA boot disk that comes with Slackware
is probably for machines with SCSI drives only, so in that case you
will need another boot disk to work with ESDI drives.

You will also have to replace the IDE devices /dev/hda etc. with ESDI
devices /dev/eda etc. on the root disk, if I remember rightly.

Take a look at the MCA-Linux page
