We might need some more info here. The fact that you're at least getting
that error means Apache is properly installed and working properly. Two
things to try:
Enable directory indexing - a line in your httpd.conf
Putting an index.html in your APACHE_PATH/docs/

Well, I'm simply going off of what others have said regarding ATX power
supplies and the power switch. The power switch DOES behave differently
when APM is enabled or disabled.
In FreeBSD (3.3-REL & 4.0-REL), when APM is enabled in the BIOS and in
the kernel and you press the power switch, it immediately powers off.
If APM is not enabled, the power switch acts as a reset button.
I've been told (not sure if I believe or not) that it is possible to get
it (apmd) to run a command (shutdown -p now) when the power switch is
pressed. I've pored over the APM and apmd man pages many times and I've
not seen anything that states this fact.
The apmd man page talks about 'change power' events, but those pertain
more to laptops than anything else.

Hi,
Anyone know how to send an arbitray set of key presses to the
console? I know that 'chvt 4' will basically do that, but it doesn't
work when VMWare is running in full screen mode.
I tried using 'showkey' to figure out the keys I was pressing and then
using 'echo -ne "\oct1\oct2\oct3..." > /dev/console' but that didn't
work.
The problem I have is that I need to send that key sequence to the
console when apm shuts down my laptop in case a VMWare session is in
full screen mode.

Well, your largest problem at the moment is that you're posting to a
Caldera NG while using RH. Perhaps you need to figure out which distro
you want to use, and then ask for assistance in the appropriate forum.

The "power" button of most modern x86 systems isn't a hard power
switch, it's a soft switch whos action is controlled via the system
(defaulting to power down the system, of course). As a software
controlled device, it can fault and infact may times our Sony VAIO
machines while running Windows of different versions have "totally
hung", such that the "power" button doesn't work. Unplugging them
is the only thing that will reset them at that point.
We've had the same thing happen on both spec-built (built from high
grade components) and HP Pavilion machines while running Windows.
We've never had one lock up like this while running unix systems
such as FreeBSD or BSDI however, although I'm sure it's possible (of
course, you'd need a kernel panic at least first, which is
incredibly rare...unlike in a Windows environment).
You'll also note newer x86 keyboards have the Mac inspired "On"
button, which again is a software controlled power switch (think of
the "standby" mode of your VCR).

Times are changing. The APM systems can change the effect of the
"power" button to a "safer" command, AFAIK, it just isn't that
commonly done (yet).

Make sure you are not installing the new modules over the old modules
directory. Either (re)move it from /lib/modules, or edit the Makefile in
/usr/src/linux so they get a unique directory:

PATCHLEVEL = 2
SUBLEVEL = 14
EXTRAVERSION = hnl1
Also, you probably want to copy /usr/src/linux/System.map to /boot so you
get more useful error messages in case of a kernel oops.

I have 2 pc's running RH 6.1, both of them are installed with
development to be able to make and compile. However, on the fastest
(PIII, 500 MHz, 256 MB RAM) it's going OK while on the other one (PI,
200 MHz, 64 MB RAM) the process ends with a core dump after the message
'gcc ...not able to create executables'. What's wrong?
