Chuckle, that was a few years back.
Please be more carefull about such things, you make us sound like a
bunch of old fogies. (I had a better TI calc than they did, so I was
rather snooty about the comparison at the time)

Had a problem like that once, way back with my bjc 4100, it got fixed
when i recompiled my kernel with support for every parallel port
setting which was presented when i did the "make config" thing
perhaps you should give it a try

Hi all:
I can't ping something like www.yahoo.com. During the boot process and
during a network restart or start, I receive the following message: "eth1
warning, CU didn't stop".
I have done the following and have the following set up. I have a DHCP
client set up on my computer which gives me an IP address from the cable
company. I can ping both of the cable companies DNS servers from my
computer. I can ping some addresses on the internet. I can ping
216.32.74.50 which is supposed to be yahoo. I could not ping 64.28.67.48 -
www.slashdot.org.
I put a link from /etc/resolv.conf to a created file /etc/dhcp/resolv.conf
with the command ln so I knew where to change DNS files. Both of these
files have two nameservers identified, but the phrase search.zbzoom.net (my
ISP) has been placed on the first line - I didn't do this. Sometimes, when
I'm bad, I erase this search line, but nothing happens.
I also have the /etc/hosts file activated. Am I allowed to use this file
with other routing services like DNS and DHCP? I thought you'd be able to
but maybe I'm wrong.

physically setting up a gateway. When I run the route command, it takes a
long time. It has an IP in the default, but this IP is different than the
one I saw in Windows (Win=24.154.17.1, now it is 24.154.14.1).

Hi all;
I stopped by friday night and picked up one of those CueCats from my
local radio shack.
Then I dld'd the driver from a freshmeat link, and installed it.
But, I patched the 2.2.17 kernel tree, not 2.2.16 which the patch claims
to be against. The patch didn't express any errors, and the only thing
that seems to have died is 'make xconfig', as I now have to 'make
menuconfig'.
I added the CueCat drivers and hooks and recompiled & rebooted.
As near as I can tell, it all went without errors, but read_cuecat
doesn't.
Having destroyed a /dev/device before, I thought maybe I had better cat
/dev/scanners/cuecat to see if it was still 'c 10 199'.
Imagine my surprise when everything I had scanned was output, and cat
was hung, not having received an EOF. I scanned some more barcodes, and
they all came out in the cat'd display. I deleted the device and
mknod'd it again, with the same results.
Any idea where I screwed this up?
Also, has anyone else made note of how bright that thing is? I don't
need nightlights in this end of the house anymore!

text based set up. Sometimes the networking command freeze up the system
and the only way to get out is <aagh> reboot! I'd like to switch to another
console and kill the old process.

I think Alt + F1 thru Alt + F12 will switch between 12 different consoles. Alt
+ F5 switches back to the original one I think. I may be totally wrong

Linux 6.1 on Digital 5200 PC
Is there a way to boot without a keyboard?
When I boot without a keyboard it doesn't start the IPservices. Seems
to lock up at the login screen. I can't ping or telnet. I looked in
the ROM for a keyboard disable but I could only disable the mouse port.

I don't know what exactly is wrong, but will try to help.
Can you get a console with CTL+ALT+F2?
If so, log in as root and exec "init 1". If this works, after you get the
prompt, exec "init 3".
After you get login, log in as root and exec "XF86Setup", and follow
instructions: answer "y" or press RETURN, etc.
This should bring up "X" as VGA and allow you to configure it.
