You may use their GUI tools 'setup' to install these package.

That sounds easy. But *I am pretty sure* that I saw
a HOWTO or something that uses a whole partition that
can be shared between Win98 (not 3.1) and linux.
It worked similarly. But you had to fool Win even more :
- Convincing Win to only use a certain drive
and not do anything else with it plus some adjustments
about the warning "running low on disk space"
- Linux has to restore parts of the Win file system upon
shutdown.
- Convincing Win to not do a file system check, since
it just got a "new" filesystem.
And in the end you would not swap on win386.swp but the whole
drive.

You could probably use either pair, but there's some special
configuration involved when you have two identical NICs.

If you have any modules that you had to compile, be sure to
recompile them when you change to booting a different
kernel. Each kernel has a separate /lib/modules/* .

My team plans to buy VA Linux 1150 which is a rack mountable slim box. The
price is about $4500 for
800 PIII +
512MB RAM +
2 x 18G SCSI +
dual 2 10/100 +
cd-rom + floppy.
And we are planning using Linux for the whole web application from Solaris.
so, we are going to buy tens of VA linux servers. Right now, we are using
Apache on Solaris 2.5.1, but we will port to RedHat 6.2 with tomcat and all
ssl stuffs.
I would like to get some reviews on
1. if VA Linux whether their product is solid close to Sun hardware
2. if VA support its customers in timely manner with quality.
3. if there are better vendors outthere, which one do you recommend?
If you have suggestions, please email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi all,
I want to run a server program that use more than 100Mbps but don't
want to buy a gigabit ethernet. I am considering use two NICs using
the same IP (or different IP) to fully utilize the CPU power.
Is there any exist program or method that can bridging between the
server program and the NICs ?
I know Windows 2000 have such function. Any expert can help ??

This is a bug in the pppd code which issues an inappropriate error
message. Ignore it.
]I extracted the following from "/usr/doc/ppp*/README.linux" on my
]RedHat 6.2 installation. It just looks relevant to the problem you're
]having.
]" To talk to the new driver, pppd needs to be able to open /dev/ppp,
] character device (108,0). If the special file node /dev/ppp is not
] present, pppd will create it. However, if you are running with /dev
] on a read-only filesystem, pppd will not be able to create /dev/ppp.
] In that instance you should manually create /dev/ppp using the command
] `mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0'."
This is for the 2.4.0 kernels. The 2.2 kernels do not use this. ppp
checks for the new driver and issues the bad eror message if it does not
find it. It does not actually care as it uses the old driver just fine.
DO NOT manually create dev ppp on a 2.2 kernel. It is not needed or
wanted.
]That would be 'mknod /dev/ppp0 c 108 0' in your case.
]Incidently; from GNOME I use 'RH Dialer' to connect to my
]intenet provider. RH Dialer uses ppp, and the pppd was
]certainly up and running, yet I found no /dev/ppp* listed.
]Maybe pppd for mandrake does things a little differently.
No. Older versions of pppd had that fake error messages. This bug was
corrected in later versions. Mandrake 7.0 used one ofhte buggy pppd
drivers.

bandwidth ?? ^^^^^^^^^
You need the bonding kernel patch :
http://pdsf.nersc.gov/linux/
It comes from the cluster projects. See
e.g. http://www.beowulf-underground.org/

And then get full 90 Mbs ... SCNR ...

Make sure you set the gateway of the masq'd machine to the IP of the machine
running the IP masq. The networking appears to be functional as you can ping
both the private and public IP's of the server.

Just a wild guess: Is your Modem a PNP modem? If yes you might need isapnp ( or
compile pnp) support into your kernel.
don't know if this will solve the problem :-(

also, don't forget to enter the DNS information on your NT box, it should be

If you don't, you'll only be able to ping specific IP addresses and not domain

Hope this helps

Is your /boot/ partition on that second slave disk now?
Normally LI shows up because of a bad HDD Geometry or /boot/boot.b was moved
without running LILO.
If you want to mount another HDD you need to make some entries in /etc/fstab.
Also you have to cd to /mnt/ and make a directory for the HDD....
You only configure LILO when you want to start up your Linux with 2 different
kernels, or when you have a dual boot system, other then that you don't need to
change anything in LILO.
You stick in your PC 2 more HDD without touching LILO. ( Unless of course you
change your Master HDD)
