Doesn't this mean that Linux resides above cylinder 1024?

I use SuSE 7.0, with YaST2, It would give me a warning that it's not
possible to start Linux in a normal way... because it has to start Linux in
cylinder over 1024.

Is this a remedy for LILO's 1024 cylinder limitation?

Hi Andreas;
Iam running RedHat 6.2, I do not know how to use python, but I can

When I try to run fetchmailconf, I get an error message that (from

you're talking about an pcmcia card. My steps:
1. compile kernel
2. enable networking
3. install pcmcia-cs package
Enabling networking in redhat: edit /etc/sysconfig/network (next time,
tell us which distribution you're using). Then take the pcmcia-cs package
and read the included howto.
good luck!

I think it will be on that cd, but often it is also on one of the binary
cd's. For example, if you are using redhat, the binary cd contains
something like 'kernel-source-2.2.17.rpm'. When you install that rpm
with 'rpm -i rpmname.rpm' then the source will be in /usr/src/linux.
But after all: I don't like that package, and i'm always using the
tar.gz file. Good luck! (and if you want to ask me again, just send me
an e-mail, because i'm not checking this newsgroup often and skip

I have been trying to install SuSE Linux V6.4 on a power pc using an ascii
emulator in yast's ascii mode. However, I can only get so far through the
installation before I hit big problems. When I have to choose the code
page to use, it doesn't seem to matter which I choose because all of them
mess me around. All the character maps seem to map the wrong keys to the
wrong buttons, in fact most buttons usually end up representing the enter
key. This means that I am unable to continue with the installation
because no matter what key I press it is interpreted as the enter key - a
problem when you need to use the cursors to select items other than the
defaults.
Does anyone have any suggestions that might help???

I don't run Red Hat, I run Debian, and on Debian systems there's a
package called 'python-tk' (which is needed by the Debian
'fetchmailconf' package). You should find and install the equivalent
package on your Red Hat system (if there is one, I don't know).

Sorry if this question has been asked a thousand times, but i have a problem
i can't resolve. I wan to connect to the internet with an ISP. I read the
HOW-TOs, and I made these conf files (in resolv.conf you see the DNS IPs of
my provider):
---resolv.conf
nameserver 212.17.192.216
nameserver 212.17.192.56
---end
---HOSTNAME

---host.conf

multi on
---end
---hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
---end
---hosts.allow
ALL:localhost
---end
---hosts.deny
ALL:ALL
---end
When i start Kppp, it dials the number, connects to the server and then it
starts pppd. I push on the Netscape button on my KDE panel, but nothing
happens. It seems i have no right to execute any command. When i disconnect
from my ISP, everything goes right: i can execute netscape and all other
commands (even the KDE menu does not work with Kppp connected).
I read my .Xauthority and i saw "localhost.localdomain". It seems to me that
with all these file set as i said, i have the right to connect to the
internet, execute netscape and surf the web. Can anybody help me?
...please!!!

It may be possible that your memory is corrupt, maybe only one chip of them,
and that may explain why NT runs fine. I've seen this problem on my own pc
once, and there it was the memory...

Okay,
there is an option somewhere in kppp that says "configure hostname from
ip" or something like that.
sorry, I'm only using the German version. Uncheck this Button and then
it should work.

I've just installed RedHat 7.0
I've got 2 HDD, one with linux (ide) and another with windows set up on
the udma66 controller of my BE6 II main board.
My problem: RedHat don't detect my udma66 disk, consequently i can't
boot on it or mount windows partition...
I thought that kernel 2.4 had an ata66 support?
I remember that with mandrake 7.0 (which was running with my 2 HDD)
there was something like"ide?=0x???,0x???? ide3=0x???,0x???" sent as an
append to the kernel by lilo (in lilo.conf)
I would like to know how could i find the correct configuration to send
to the kernel?
And, can i use this howto for my new 2.4 kernel?

What about patching the kernel?
Thank u for your help.
