hi,

I'm using Suse7, but I thought that what I found on their support site=20
might be of interest to you anyway:

Symptom:
You unsuccesfully try to install Linux on an A7V where your drives are=20
connected to the Promise FastTrak100-Controller.

Cause:
The Promise FastTrak100 is supported by Suse7, EXCLUDING "certain" A7V =

BIOS revisions.

Solution:
Connect the HDD to the Onboard-IDE-Controller. Alternatively, you may=20
want to upgrade your BIOS.

Hi,

I set up printcap, ghostscript, and lpd to accept spool jobs.

I used efax-0.9-7.i386.(rpm?)

search for efax http://lycos.ftpsearch.com/?form=medium

efax will recieve faxes too. The recieve process is not as automated as I
would like. 'fax2send' is another package too. Haven't tried this.

When I do "make CC=kgcc bzImage", I get: "make: kgcc: command not found"
"make *** init/main.o error 127".

Other commands did work with CC=kgcc. Only bzImage not. That's of
course the one I really need. :-(

Well, I figured it out, sort of. But I had to
use fdisk to change the partition's type to 82.
I thought the Druid was supposed to be more

Hello!

Before I do the format c:/ and start install Linux (probably Peanut distro
for size) on my 200 Mb Hardddrive 486 Laptop overwriting Win3.1 and
such . . .

What info should I get off the machine to make this as pain free as
possible? Use MSD to find out about processor, graphic card, ect? There
is no modem or network card yet.

I read a post where someone recommended putting a 15 Mb partition up for
keeping some of the DOS for booting or something?

I would download the bootdisk, and not make it from within DOS, right?

I am keen to find a webpage with procedural information ratehr than
bothering the NG about such things. Recommendations?

Thanks!

Well, I've been using an Epox MVP3G5 for a while now...it's run Win95,
Win98, WinNT4 and Linux and hasn't given me any problems. Peformance is
good.

I bought it specifically because it was the only availble board (at the
time, anyway) that:
1. Supported the K6-3
2. Had a UDMA/ATA-66 interface
3. Had a 2MB L2 Cache

I wouldn't put too much stock in the fact that you're friends board cooked
- not matter what brand or model you can think of, SOMEONE has had a bad
experience with it or gotten a defective one. It's the nature of the beast.

The ONLY potential problem that I know of with this board is that some
sound cards have an issue with the VIA chipset (which it uses).
Specifically, the Diamond MX300 or other Aureal Vortex based sound cards.
I changed mine over to an SB LIve! and have had zarro boogs.

I have a Sound Galaxy 'sb compatible' card that I could never get to
work under Linux. I was offered a used genuine SB16 and installed that
as a second sound card in the hopes that this would work...BUT I can't
get Linux to detect it. When I run sndconfig it only detects the Sound
Galaxy. I still use the old card for Winmodem (sorry :) ) so I need to
leave the card in for Windoze. Is there any way to manually configure
the sound system to pick up the SB card and ignore the SG ?

Grateful for any help

if you are using 192.168.0.0/24 as your network and you have one interface
on your linux box hooked into your ISP's network (and that interface is
your default gateway) here are the only ipchains rules you need along with
the kernal features that must be turened on.

#this is a very basic ipmasq set up, if you don't do all of the following
#ipmasq or most of your apps may not work!!!
#just cut and paste from here!
echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_dynaddr #only needed if you use DHCP
echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_masq_udp_dloose

#I recomend you load the following modules too!
depmod -a
modprobe ip_masq_raudio

modprobe ip_masq_quake 26000,27000,27910,27960
modprobe ip_masq_cuseeme
modprobe ip_masq_vdolive

ipchains -A forward DENY
ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.0.0/24 -d 0.0.0.0 -j MASQ
ipchains -M -S 600 80 240 # I found this works best
#end of example ipmasq setup

Howdy,

I have an ATI All in Wonder 128 Pro with 32 megs of RAM and I'm
having a spot of trouble. I installed Red Hat 6.2 and X without any
trouble. I'm trying to get the TV tuner to work. I installed GATOS
(with the ibtos, or something like that). But when I run it I get an
error like "xatitv: gatos_init(): No such device." I read the GATOS faq
and some usenet posts, so I'm getting the idea that GATOS works fine
with the 16 meg card but not the 32 (because the 32 uses the Rage
Theatre chip?). Is that right? But I've seen posts by people where they
mention in passing that they are using the TV tuner on their AIW 128
Pro 32s. So any idea on how to get it to work? Will bttv do the trick?

Thanks,
Achal

troubles can become more important such as creating multiple color lines.

Hi,

I wanted to install MySQL. I used the newest beta-version 2.23.25-1 and
I had problems. I decided to deinstall. It didn't work. So installed
stable version 2.22.32. But I got wrong version information from rpm.
I tried to deinstall: 'rpm -e MySQL'. It didn't work
I used 'rpm -e --noscripts MySQL'. It worked.

Now I have a problem.
1) I try to install:
'rpm -ihv mysql-3.22.32-36.i386.rpm' says : 'package mysql-3.22.32-36 is
already installed'
2) I try to get info
'rpm -q -i MySQL' says 'package MySQL is not installed'
3) I tried to rebuild the database:
'rpm --rebuilddb'
No change to 1) and 2)

I'm using SUSE 6.4

Is there anybody out there with an idea ??
