hi,
I once had the same prob, though with an IDE drive.
Try
"fsck /dev/sda1"
I'm not sure but perhaps you need to unmount sda1 first.
Good luck,

package, with all the package i have tried i get:
BAD MAGIC: cpio error.
The strange thing is that if i select this page in the installation stage ,
i got no problem.
Someone suggest that the problem is the support for DMA in the default
kernel, but also when i swith off the DMA with hdparm -d0 /dev/hda i can't
solve the problem.
Help me!!!!

Hi all,
does anybody know why I can't read self-burned dvd's ?
There are some dvd's i can read and some with errors.
This error occurs also on different linux kernels:
2.2.14,2.2.17..., 2.4.0-test3
I can "dual-boot" on same computer to win98 and where is all fine -
means no hard error. But I need it for linux and not window !
The error is, that du and df have big diffent sizes and so it is
impossible to read data correctly. Also the size of each files differs
from mount (test1) to mount (test2).
Test 1)
# mount -t iso9660 -o ro,blocks=2048,norock
# df -k /dvd

/dev/scd1 4094388 4094388 0 100% /dvd

I have a HP deskjet 815c usb printer.
But when printing a test page, I get the error message
"cannot open '/dev/usblp0' - 'Permission denied'"
I set up a device node entry, using the following command:
mknod /dev/usblp0 c 180 0
Then I used the printtool to install my printer.
After that my printcap file looks like this:
##PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL ppa 600x600 letter {} {HP DeskJet 820} ppa820b1 {}

Okay, then, how does either of you explain the attached hd

I really fail to see what this has to do with linux, but you can put
your linux installation disk in and run fdisk from there to delete the
partitions.

Don't make multiple posts in different NG's. If you can't choose to what
group to post your question, make a crosspost. Many of us read more than
one NG, nad it's really anoying to answer a post and find in the next NG
that three others already answered your question.

Or you can boot from floppy, you'll need to bypass Diskdruid and use
fdisk though. Afterwards you can upgrade lilo to a newer version that
can make use of the newer int13 bios calls, that enable you to boot from
beyond cyl. 1024 from HDD too.

The DNA -> RNA -> Proteins is not the correct way of dealing with this
situation.
Lets take DNA. This is a combination of 4 different RNA's (afaik). And
these RNA's are built of different proteins.
So, the Protein is the base of all (and should be taken as
startingpoint). From the Protein, i can figure out what RNA I'll get,
from the different combinations of RNA i can build DNA.
In this case, DNA is a result of Proteins, not the other way around.
I cannot figure out the connection with the software part of the story.
Correct me if I am wrong...

It is a bug in the partitioning software used, or an error if the
partition type was set manually. Your data will be damaged if you do
not change the type of hda3 to 0C.

I don't mean to be mean, but you really have to go read a book.

Subject: networking redhat?
Date: Thu, 5 Oct 2000 09:06:32 -0600
I am new to linux and am finding the system to be very exciting for me. I am
trying to setup my redhat 7.0 system to be a apache webserver(via a static
ip address and a dsl line) to host a freelance business I am starting up. I
would like to be able to access the linux system via samba(smb) and my win98
systems. I have found that www.wholelinux.com offers a preconfigured
software package to do just what I want however I would prefer to learn how
to do it myself but I am having some trouble getting the samba configured
correctly to be seen by my win98 systems on my local lan.and I haven't even
started on the apache stuff.
Does anyone have a good website or book that would take me through the
process?
Thanks,
Brady

Have a look to see if you are running "gpm" (general purpose mouse) by
default (starts during boot). I have had situations where I had to kill
"gpm" before running X.
Good luck.
