hi!

Just set up postfix on my firewall. Not useful for much except mail ON
THAT MACHINE. ISP firewalls port 25, and I know how to get postfix to
listen on a different port, but will that allow me to receive
mail? Because after all, every other mail server is going to try to
deliver to 25 (and get rejected).

Is there any solution?

Thanks

Get "Running Linux"! Not a lot of pictures, but then that's why we all
learned to read!
It's distribution agnostic, so you can use it as a (very good) general
reference.

Subject: Linux and Windows clock times out of sync (VMware for Win2000 + SuSE 7.0)
Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2000 12:01:46 +0100

I'm a newbie to Linux, but I'm learning fast. I particularly like the
VMware solution to multiple operating systems, but I keep finding
oddities...

Problem:
I can manually adjust the Linux date and time to match that in Windows
using the kcmclock application. However, over a period of time, when
I'm not using Linux constantly, the Linux clock shows a different time,
sometimes fast, sometimes slow. For example this morning it is Oct 25 @
11:52 in Windows, but Oct 26 @ 01:41 in Linux.

Question:
Is there a way to force Linux to use the CMOS clock from within VMware?

Environment:
I am running the following setup:
 Pentium III 750MHz laptop
 128MB memory
 11GB hard drive (C:)
 DVD (D:)
  Windows 2000 Professional
VMware 2.0.2 for Windows NT and Windows 2000
   SuSE 7.0
   hda = linux.dsk (1.5GB max, mount=/, /boot and swap)
   hdb = linux2.dsk (1.5GB max, mount=/home)
   hdc = D:
   hdd = C:
   64MB memory

Thanks in advance..........Phil

Hi,

Quick one i hope:
I wish to have a couple of linuxes installed ..each on different drives.
I want them to not know about each other... ish.
Would like to set which to boot from lilo.
ATM lilo can't see the others /boot/kernel as its root etc is on another
drive.
Ideas on how to do it?
Tried the HOWTOs and came away even more confused :/

Ade.

like 2 months ago to do something diff. I did this the other day and
everything went fine no problem. I was talking on the phone while i was
entering all the acount info and root password. After install i went to
login as i had done many times
before....................................................... It would not
work.

I figured i entered in the wrong password or something so i re-installed
AGAIN and same thing happend has any one had this problem with 7.0??? I am
thinking of getting 6.2 instead. Thank you for your concern of a very

there are ways around the login prompt for the root user. Reinstalling
is not the answer to everything, except a compromised machine or a
really bad hard drive corruption.

How's the network thing going for you? I haven't heard back in a while.

Install lilo with one distribution and use a boot disk for everything
else. Else, make sure you know which partitions are boootable.
Personally, a single boot partition would be best.

Welcome to Linux-land!
The trick (or rather the logical way) is to have separate lilo's for each
Linux distribution.
a) The first installed distribution puts it's lilo in mbr and behaves
normal.
b) When installing the second, third, umpteen distribution install it's lilo
in the same
partition. This lilo has to boot this distro only so it does not need menu
choices or waiting period, although a short message informing what is going
on is nice.
c) In /etc/lilo.conf of the primary lilo add
other=/dev/hdyx #yx the partition of the called Linux distribution
label=theOtherOne #any name that you can easly remember.
unsafe # this means "Just do it!"

(Note: rerun lilo)

This will call the partition where the second lilo is waiting and everybody
happy.

Just make sure of three things:
That you create a booting diskette during installation of the other distro.
That the partition is not mounted as the initialisation process needs it
"ro" for checking.
And that you RTFM "man lilo.conf"
Have fun.
Stanislaw.

For the packet size, man ifconfig and look for the MTU.

This is a FAQ. The answer should be on RH's support page.
Make sure you compile with the correct compiler, kgcc.
Edit the Makefile and change the compiler to kgcc after
making sure you install it.

man XF86Config makes good reading. Especially the Screen section
and the bit about DefaultDepth.

i then tried to set up the right irq in rc.serial because isapnp did not get
the irq correct. either that or there are other problems.

after noticing that i made the same typo in my post no less than 4 times i
checked rc.serial. either i fixed my typo in rc.serial the last time i
edited it or i didn't have a typo there (only here in my post). but that
might explain why i don't get the beeps and repeating characters anymore...
or would it? i may just experiment and let you know.
oh, and the spd_vhi sets it so that a 56k V.90 modem is not limited to 56k.
it sets the baud rate to 115200.
